War Poems
The Great War's were a source of great poetry as people remembered those they'd lost. So in rememberance of our strong Australian soldiers I have compiled the following poems by yours truly. Let us not forget.
Did we learn?
For all the men we lost those years
Most have no known name
Whose bodies, few were found and buried
The world has not been the same
You died fighting for today
But what was it really for?
Let us take up our defence
And stop any future wars
War is stupid and costly
Haven’t we learnt that yet?
The thousands of men, who paid the price,
Australia will always regret.
War is a creation of man
Bourne of mankind’s greed and suspicion
He seizes the world in his hand
He creeps into the mind of people
Creates fear in the land
Simple things stir him
And wake him from his rest
He spreads deception and destruction
Humans always think they know best
He is war, past, present, future
The product of deception
Of lies and mistrust
He is mankind’s worst action
His lies bring fear and suspicion
To the hearts of innocent men
He caused death by the thousands
And he will continue, when he stirs properly, once again.
Those we lost
Australian men marched side by side
Towards their enemy and doom
Strong they stood, til the end
Guns roared and bombs went ‘BOOM’
Together they stood with fiery courage
Bravery of which we’re proud
Til this day we remember that war
The loss is still crying loud
They fought for us and now they lie
Lost and we regret,
That deadly fateful 1st world war
Let us never forget
The unknown soldiers of Gallipoli
They lay unknown, dead and lost
Yet these men paid the ultimate cost
Their souls haunt that tragic land
Their bodies lie, never found
All the thousands of unknown souls
Now they rest in that fateful ground
They are the many, unfound for mourning,
Left, at the battles cries warning
Not marked among the crosses,
Missing forever, we’ll never know
Who they were and what they left behind,
As they fought for the country in which we grow
They are the souls which were lost
Their message, to us is tossed
War is not about heroes or being brave
It is about being unknown and continuing,
The fight to the grave
